Moving & Storage Tips and Tricks

There are lots of ways to help make your move easier and smooth. Here are some helpful tips that will come handy when packing up and moving your household to a new place.

Make sure you have enough packing materials and supplies.  If you decide to do your own packing, get plenty of supplies, and it’s always a good idea to have some extra boxes and packing materials set aside for the last time use.

Strategize and utilize box use. Make sure you pack the boxes properly, and use different boxes for according items. Use wardrobe boxes for your clothes on hangers, or any lightweight and bulky items, such as cushions, pillows, large baskets. Use small book boxes for your library of reading material; pack your kitchenware in dish packs or china boxes. It’s very recommended that you wrap every piece of your glassware and china in a bubble wrap or packing paper. Also, try not to make the boxes too heavy, although movers will lift anything that can be physically lifted, the box can rip apart, or bottom can give away, and your items could be damaged.  You can fill your luggage and other bags with clothing or bedding.

Put things together. One good advice is to pack your belongings together, rather than spreading through different boxes. Put cables, remotes, with the TV; couch legs, table legs, or other disassembled things together with the item; in this case you won’t have to go through all of your boxes looking for your TV remote. Also, always mark and name boxes, write what’s inside, which room it comes from or goes into, whether it should be opened immediately. This way it’s a lot easier and faster to determine where should you or mover unload the box.

Safeguarding your stuff, and about items movers cannot take in the truck.  It’s recommended that you take all your valuable possession with you, such as silverware, jewellery, and important documents. If you have no room in your car, make sure to mark the inventory of the contents of the box, and let us know about the importance of the box, so it will be handled with extra care and safety.

There are some items that movers are prohibited from putting into the truck, such as aerosol cans, propane, gasoline, and combustible materials that may be found in certain cleaners, paints, and industrial chemicals.  Any small, motorized items, such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, have to be drained and cleaned properly. Freezers and refrigerators must be completely defrosted and emptied.  If there’s a laser printer, the toner must be removed, prior to loading into the truck. According to state, there are laws that forbid living pants to be transported over the state lines.  You can always contact your mover about the regulations and limitations on moving.
